All Things Video: The Trailing Millennials and TV Tossers

My tribe as measured by viewing habits, okay, but not age:

The “trailing millennials” (aged 14 to 25) are the only age group watching more shows on digital devices than on traditional TV screens.  Next question:  What do trailing millennials spend their money on?  Not cars like in the good old days. More importantly, is this your audience for products and services?

Better read up on Periscope and Meerkat as both are popular with this age group, but you already know this.

What about Facebook?  According to the news reports "There were over 4.4 million videos uploaded directly to Facebook in February 2016, generating over 199 billion views for around 540,000 different creators." Lots of singing dogs and cute cats nuzzling sleeping hamsters and a boon for animal rescue agencies finding homes for their love-you-no-matter-what clients.

Well, yes, but a look at the top 25 publishers on Facebook (provided by Tubular across all platforms) one finds the leading genre to be entertainment (12) followed by food (6), sports and news at 3 each, and one style and beauty.

Hooked on network programming, but ready to give the TV a toss? Not literally, of course, because as a display device it beats viewing a video on a 13" laptop.

Sling TV is a new live TV service at $20/month that allows subscribers to watch a collection of cable TV channels on their TVs, computers or mobile devices. These are live TV channels, just like those offered by a cable or satellite TV service, except they're delivered over the Internet.

Although Sling TV is a subsidiary of Dish Network, the satellite provider, it's operated as an entirely separate service. You do not need a Dish subscription to get Sling TV.
