My advice in terms of email was recently reinforced by Marketing Sherpa's Chart of the Week. My advice is short and if you already know this, duh, stay with the program. I still see emails that stop me cold.
1. Build and maintain your house list. If you are not using a service to manage your house list emailings so you know open rates and can remove undeliverables, you are doing a disservice to your clients and your company.
2. Test subject lines.
3. Personalize.
4. Use creative - pictures are still worth a 1,000 words.
5. Content above the fold is more likely to be read so keep in mind this eye tracking study by Eyetool of an email and put what's important in the right place.
